universal truth

Universal Studios Lot, Instagram by sessepien
you need to be brave enough
to rent an apartment with steep staircases
but with your low wages
you can only support yourself like this

you can have a time frame
to go for something better without fail
before the mind plays tricks
of you being safe in such a place

later ought to come early
you must not let the virus party on you
you can always buy a bicycle
and cycle away to the court

"bricks will not fall apart
if we hold those with strong mortar of our will"

Yours made me think of my daughter who just moved to New York City and who was very uneasy about it at first.

This made me think of my first apartment--about the search. So many things to wonder when looking for home, in a low budget, and for the first time...

Enjoyed your words..the last two lines hold "truth"

It's good to have a timeframe to work with. I loved my first apartment even with all it's steps!

You have to start somewhere and always have a plan for moving on to better places in life ...

I like the idea of advertising bicycles on the 3rd floor. However living in a city has both its advantages and drawbacks. Even escaping to you first apartment seems like bliss.

I like the image of time frame....
very nicely done...

Doesn't look like much of an apartment, I agree, but what's inside?

I like the allusion to safety - all in the mind obviously.

Those first apartments we rent for ourselves........you made me remember. I recall the first "painting" I bought for my new apartment - a puppy with tears in his eyes - on black velvet, no less. Ack! I have come a ways since then at least in terms of art!!! Still animals, but bow wildlife, and NO black velvet to be seen!

later ought to come early .... but often does not for many; thus, the beauty in that saying: "Bloom where you are planted."

I loved your poem.

Long time! I remember you because we're both mathematicians. I'm running into this prompt a few other places for OMN ;-) I like what you did with it. Cycling away - good layered choice.

It would be great if later came sooner but alas it doesn't. Everything in it's own time I guess. I think many of us can share this story as though it were our own. I too come from very humble beginnings!

.... and here i was thinking not such a bad place to live.... if we're not safe we're not safe..... haven't been by in awhile... great to come back and visit...

…and we often end up yearning for the early, simple beginnings.
